I like to brew wine; It's only a hobby but I'm obsessed!
This is the place to be if you want to see what another brewer is up to or want some encouragement to start or diversify. I've posted heaps of recipes (clicky) and 2 wine-making vids (here for wine made from cartons of juice blog / youtube, and here for Blackberry wine on the pulp blog / youtube).

Considering Brewing?

If you're thinking of getting into brewing here's some thoughts that might get you a step closer to taking the plunge

  • It's really very easy, tho if you want to get all techie and scientific then there's plenty of scope for that.
  • It's as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.
  • £30 should be enough to get all the basic equipment that you need to get going (but you'll soon want more - brewing is like that!)
  • You can make wine that is comparable - quality wise - to what you would pay £5-10 from the supermarket. It can be ready to drink in 6-8 weeks and cost less than £1 per bottle to make.
  • You don't have to make make wine using labour intensive methods like crushing fruit, you can make it from cartons of juice bought from a supermarket - it's quick, easy and gives pleasant results.
  • There are heaps of delicious wines you can make from fruit and flowers etc that you can find in the hedgerows for free (blackberries, rosehips or elder flowers for example).
  • There are heaps of forums and websites that cater for home-brewers, so you'll never be short of recipes, tips and advice. This blog will become one of them as I turn those spare moments into content.
  • There is always a good time to start, for example in spring there are elder flowers, hawthorn blossoms and dandelions up for grabs, just get out there and forage!
